About the Summit

Preparing for the Boom In Mobile Payment

With Apple pioneering its Apple Pay offering, introducing NFC as the enabling technology, with Google also enhancing its Google Wallet offerings and Alibaba pushing its Alipay services beyond China, the mobile payment space is expected to boom, becoming more important and significant in the months to come. Indeed, will Apple Pay and Alipay transform mobile payments worldwide?

Among the newly Emerging Economies in the Mobile Commerce space, Myanmar is feverishly building up its telecom and e-commerce infrastructures, opening up the unbanked rural sector and the cities to new mobile banking initiatives and e-commerce possibilities. With new telecom infrastructure getting in place by its incumbent telco and foreign telcos including KDDI, Telenor and Ooredoo, it can provide the convenient and strategic platform for Mobile Payment to take off! The Central Bank of Myanmar is now promoting mobile banking and payments in Myanmar.

In other markets in the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East & Africa, there are increasingly new and exciting opportunities for Mobile Payments and E-Commerce! Banks, financial institutions & MFIs in emerging markets such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Mongolia, Tanzania, Kenya, and even countries such as China and Japan, are developing branchless banking to bring services to communities in areas that have been traditionally underserved, such as townships and rural areas. And mobile is not just another channel, it is fast becoming the first choice for many consumers to access financial services especially in economies with a huge unbanked population.

At this 6th Annual Summit, the industry stakeholders will be converging in Yangon, to assess the opportunities, share experiences on how to design, establish & operationalize mobile payment solutions, including the potential of NFCs and Bitcoins, evaluate technology & challenges, discuss IT strategies to drive revenue opportunities & cost efficiencies and to transform the customer retail banking experience of the economies of South East Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Middle East and Oceania.

For the host country, Myanmar's business landscape could be drastically reshaped through the fast adoption of Mobile Commerce and E-Commerce, especially with the two foreign telcos and the other two reconstituted Myanmar telcos rolling out their new m-payment and e-commerce services in 2015. Businesses in Myanmar can establish partnership, collaboration or joint ventures with telcos, E-commerce companies & banks, capitalizing on current mobile trends and technologies, to rollout new business or product offerings and earn new & ancillary revenue!

Myanmar's decision makers, corporate leaders of Myanmar's banks, telco, ICT, internet sectors, enterprise end-users, together with banks, telecom companies, ICT experts from the world's leading emerging economies, are expected at this Summit. This is a must attend Summit for the many mobile banking and e-commerce solution providers, experts, equipment vendors from Asia, Europe, USA, Australia & the Middle East.
